Where it’s made

Four towns. One brief.

Most UK clothing production sits in and around Leicester, the historic garment hub. You don’t need to pick a town: we place your brief by product, fabric and quantity.

What UK production costs per piece.

  • Hoodie£10–20per piece, CMT

  • Jacket£28–65per piece, CMT

Three things move the number

  1. No. 01Fabric and colourwaysMills sell to their own minimums, usually per colour. Three colourways at 100 pieces each is often harder to price than one colourway at 300.
  2. No. 02Complexity, not just sizeBonded seams, specialist trims or an unusual construction cost more per piece at every volume.
  3. No. 03CMT or full packageCMT means you supply the fabric and a graded pattern. Full package means the factory sources materials and makes the patterns: simpler for a first order, and more per piece.

Questions

Straight answers on making it in Britain.

What brands ask before they send us a brief.

From 100 pieces per style. Outerwear and tailoring usually start at 150, denim and activewear at 200. We confirm the exact minimum for your product before you commit to anything.

Sampling takes 2–4 weeks. Bulk production takes 8–11 weeks from the approved sample, depending on the product. If you have a ship date, work back from it and send the brief at least 14 weeks before.

Typical UK cut, make and trim prices are £4–9 for a t-shirt, £10–20 for a hoodie, £14–32 for a dress and £28–65 for a jacket, fabric not included. Fabric, trims, complexity and quantity move the number. The factory quotes you directly once it has your tech pack.

Sending a brief is free. If we can place it, our fee is quoted in writing after we read the brief, before any work starts, and it is never tied to order size. We take no commission from factories, and the factory bills you directly for the run.

Not to send a brief. Factories need one before they can quote accurately and cut a sample. If you do not have one, our tech pack service turns sketches, references or a sample into a factory-ready pack for £79 per style in 3–5 working days.

See the tech pack service

CMT (cut, make, trim) means you source and send the fabric, and the factory cuts and sews. Full package means the factory sources fabric, trims and labels for you. Full package is simpler and costs more; most UK factories offer both, and many new brands start full package and move to CMT later.

Most UK clothing production sits in and around Leicester, the historic garment hub. Knitwear and jersey cluster around Leicester and Nottingham, cut and sew and outerwear around Manchester, and sampling, pattern cutting and fabric agents around London.

Start with Leicester

Yes, when the brief is realistic: clear garment specs, at least 100 pieces per style and a timeline that allows proper sampling. Many of the briefs we place are a first production run. About 1 in 5 briefs is not a fit, and we say so by email at no cost.

Yes. If you need GOTS, OEKO-TEX or GRS, say so in the brief and we only place it with factories that can show a current certificate for that product.
